White Oak Jai Alai is an American IPA brewed by Cigar City Brewing, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.
The IPA pours a slightly hazy copper and shows a suspended cloud of fine sediment. It’s topped by a thick cap of rocky, off-white foam that shows good retention. Chunks of foam and a lattice of sticky lace clings to the sides as the head reduces.
The aroma is fragrant with a scent of fresh pine needles. A hint of booze is detected once the beer warms.
The palate begins with a taste of toasted bread and a mild dose of hoppy pine. The middle is sweet with caramel malt and a light orange citrus picks up from there. Sweet flavors of tangerine along with hints of coconut and vanilla round out the finish. There’s an earthy character from the white oak that’s picked up in the base.
The feel is smooth with a medium body and matching carbonation. It finishes dryly with a mild astringency and warmth.
Its appearance is solid and the aroma is bright and strong. The taste is nothing short of incredible. It’s wonderfully hoppy, balanced, and complex. Its feel is mouthwatering and though this brew is should be savored with each sip, it’s quite easy to tilt back. The White Oak Jai Alai is an absolute must.
