Tampa-Style Lager is a German-style Munich Helles Lager brewed by Cigar City Brewing, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the lager was served in a nonic pint glass from a can.
Appearance
The lager pours a crystal-clear gold and is topped by a thick white cap of puffy white foam that shows modest retention. A smattering of residue is left behind on the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is hoppy with a scent that’s floral and spicy.
Flavor
A hop-forward palate delivers a soft grassy bite that recedes to a minerally base of doughy bread. Hops return with a light bitterness, imparting floral and citrus notes. A taste of honey flashes on the swallow.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is very smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall
The head dissipates rather quickly and as such, the appearance could be better. Its aroma is pleasant but leans too hoppy for the style. Its feel is right where it should be. The palate is nicely balanced, perched on the upper end of expected bitterness. But more importantly, it just tastes lovely. The Tampa-Style Lager is a refreshing, easy-drinking session beer.
