Trippel Belgian Style Ale is a Belgian-style Tripel brewed by New Belgium Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a snifter from a bottle.
Appearance
The Tripel pours a cloudy golden hue and is topped by a finger-thick cap of white froth that dissipates rapidly. The reduction leaves a thin ring of fine bubbles circling the glass and a spittle of residue.
Aroma
The aroma blends grain with floral hops and is backed by spicy phenols and fruity esters.
Flavor
The palate begins with a taste of bready malt that transitions to a bite of floral hops and orange citrus; spiced with coriander. A sweet dollop of banana rounds out the tasting.
Mouthfeel
Its feel has a smooth draw and crisp, dry finish. Medium body and moderately-high carbonation. The alcohol lends the finish a moderate warming sensation.
Overall
Its appearance is disappointing. The aroma isn’t particularly strong but it’s pleasant, complex, and appropriate for the style. The feel could use a little more carbonation and the alcohol isn’t hidden as expected. But the palate is the highlight for this Tripel. Its sweet and spicy flavors are strong and complex. Sure, the Trippel Belgian Style Ale doesn’t measure up to the better brews across the pond, but it’s still enjoyable.
Trippel Belgium Style Ale is my preferred beer from now on! It’s has the perfect taste and the perfect affect. Love it!
