Hi-Wire Brewing

Hi-Wire Brewing produces approachable and balanced beers in the heart of Asheville, North Carolina, the little circus town we call home. At our core, we brew beer we want to drink on a regular basis, beer we can sit down and have multiple pints with friends. Our flagship and seasonal offerings are brewed to be balanced and approachable, how brewers have been striving to brew beers for thousands of years.

We are dedicated to the tradition of our craft while striving to be innovative

Brewing beers with a connection to the past is important to us. We love to brew traditional styles that honor the heritage of our craft and pay respect to those who have crafted beer before us. Yet, as an American craft brewer, we are elated to participate in the culture of experimentation that has developed here. With the opening of the Big Top Production Brewery & Taproom, our South Slope Specialty Brewery has become an experimental hub for creating exciting barrel-aged sour and wild ales in addition to housing our pilot system for recipe development and fun small-batch creations.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously

And just because we partake in a craft steeped in tradition, doesn’t mean we are stuffy. We firmly believe beer should be fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Our tasting rooms, our staff, our packaging, all embody this spirit of fun and approachability.

But perhaps, most importantly, we think people and community matter

We love taking care of our people and giving our staff an environment to work where they feel empowered, to make choices that affect how the company is run. We give regularly and often to charity, and strive to create environments where people feel comfortable coming together with friends. We hire local artists for all of our artwork and use local ingredients as often as possible. We desire to be connected to our home and to be woven into the interworking of this little circus town we call Asheville.

South Slope Taproom

Hi-Wire Brewing’s journey began in the summer of 2013 at their 2,700 sq. ft. South Slope Brewery located at 197 Hilliard Ave in the heart of Asheville’s South Slope Brewery District. With the 2015 opening of their Big Top Production Brewery up the road, the original Hi-Wire brewhouse is 100% dedicated to brewing award-winning sour and wild ales and one-off small batch beers. Pop-in to this cozy space and enjoy one of the nation’s only craft breweries to have a speciality program that revolves around both craft lagers and sour beers.

Big Top Production Brewery

Located a half a mile from the Biltmore Estate just up the road from their South Slope Specialty Brewery, Hi-Wire Brewing opened the 27,000 sq. ft. Big Top Taproom & Production Brewery in the summer of 2015. The Big Top brings the brewing process to life by giving craft beer drinkers the opportunity to enjoy a pint of Hi-Wire’s approachable and balanced lagers and ales beside the tanks where they were created. This large, industrial-feeling space features a bier garden, a permanent Foothills Local Meats food truck serving the best in local, pasture-raised meats with vegetarian options available, and is home to all of Hi-Wire’s large events.

Durham Taproom

Our journey began in the summer of 2013 in the heart of Asheville, North Carolina’s South Slope Brewery District. With the 2015 opening of their Big Top Production Brewery up the road, the next next goal was to bring a bring a physical location to Durham, NC. The new taproom consists of 8,844 square feet of interior space, as well as a 1,678 sq. ft. outdoor covered patio and beer garden. The space is game and activity heavy, featuring full-sized shuffleboard courts, soccer pool tables, table tennis, and more. The bar’s 24 taps feature ours full line-up of beers, including year-round, seasonal, specialty, sour, and one-offs, as well as wine, local cider, and guest taps from neighboring breweries. The Durham taproom is family friendly for a majority of our business hours with a 21-plus age limit after 8 PM.

Knoxville Taproom

Located just across the Tennessee River from downtown, in hip South Knoxville, the 10,187 sq. ft. taproom is a part of a mixed-use building at 2020 Barber St. Hi-Wire houses the entire 2nd floor including a 455 occupant taproom, two outdoor decks — one of which is a rooftop with views of downtown Knoxville — and 24 taps. The space will be game and activity heavy, featuring two soccer pool tables, table tennis, shuffleboard, foosball, and more.
