Zebra Jon is an American Double IPA brewed by Clown Shoes Beer, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a bottle.
Appearance
The IPA pours a hazy, golden orange with a thick cap of white foam that offers nice retention. Patches of sticky lace cling to the glass as the head recedes.
Aroma
A pleasant aroma features a scent of tropical fruits and a hint of pine. A touch of booze appears in the nose as the beer warms.
Flavor
The palate opens a touch tart with a juicy blend of tropical fruits and citrus. The label mentions the use of pink guava and mango and that’s certainly possible. Mosaic hops then power the bite for this brew, bringing notes of grass and pine to the middle before finishing with an earthy and herbal taste. A relatively high ABV is masked generally well.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel has a medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall
Zebra Jon gets high marks for its aroma and appearance. Hopheads will certainly appreciate the palate’s ample bite but its transition to herbal hops nearly turns medicinal.
