Upslope Brown Ale is an English-style Brown Ale brewed by Upslope Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a nonic pint glass from a can.
Appearance
The ale pours a clear chestnut brown with ruby highlights. It’s topped by a tall stack of rocky cream-colored foam that shows good retention. Gobs of lace cling to the sides of the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is smoky and sweet with a mix of caramel, roast malt, and a hint of nut.
Flavor
Toasted bread leads the palate and gradually becomes bitter with herbal hops, coffee roast, and nut. That bitterness carries through the finish and is slightly mellowed by caramel and chocolate.
Mouthfeel
The feel is smooth with a body that’s just over medium with light carbonation.
Overall
The Upslope Brown Ale presents well, has a pleasant aroma, and feels just right. And that palate is just a little sweet, a little smoky, and a little bready. And all of those flavors come together so well. It’s no wonder the Upslope Brown Ale has won numerous awards. It’s just that good.
Recommended Pairings
Upslope recommends the following food pairings with their Brown Ale: rich dishes, chocolate chip cookies, and duck.
