Sword Play is a German-style Gose collaboratively brewed by Civil Society Brewing Co. and Commonwealth Brewing Co. For the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a wheat beer glass from a can.
Appearance
The ale pours a cloudy straw and is topped by a thick stack of pillowy white foam that persists briefly. The head reduces to a razor-thin head of bubbles and eventually vanishes altogether. Bubbles rise in the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is bright and tart with a scent of key limes. Wheat bread also appears as the beer warms.
Flavor
The palate is tart and juicy throughout with flavors of key lime and passionfruit. A taste of sea salt punches the finish while a bready sourdough base ties the palate together.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is smooth, astringent, and its saltiness is mouthwatering. The body is medium with moderately-high carbonation.
Overall
Sword Play has a pleasant aroma and is delightfully tart, refreshing, and easily quaffed. The grain and yeast give the brew a nice body. If anything is amiss, its appearance is good but not great. Regardless, this Gose mixes well with the Florida sun.
