Super Treat is an American Double IPA that’s brewed by Tree House Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a 16 oz. can.
What You Need to Know
The Super Treat is a New England-style Double IPA that’s available on a rotating basis. Lightly carbonated, the DIPA is brewed with citrus-forward hops and a house yeast.
Appearance
The DIPA pours an opaque marigold hue and is topped by an inch-thick cap of rocky, ivory-white foam that shows excellent retention. The head’s reduction leaves behind patches of sticky lace along the sides of the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is strong, persistent, and quite pleasant. Its scent consists of sweet orange, tangerine, and ripe mango.
Flavor
The palate is led by a bready malt base that transitions through sweet candy-like tangerine, melon, and pineapple. The tasting then sharpens to a crisp bite of orange and white grapefruit citrus with a hint of spicy resin. Its bitterness lingers briefly.
Mouthfeel
The feel is soft and smooth with a body that’s over medium with less-than-moderate carbonation. The finish is relative dry and somewhat astringent. Its relatively high alcohol lends a light warmth but is otherwise hidden well.
Overall
The Super Treat presents exceptionally well. The aroma is superb and long-lasting. The palate delightfully balances its sweet and bitter hoppy flavors with its bready base. The feel is spot on, making this brew very drinkable. Super Treat is truly a delightful New Englander from Tree House.
