Super Bitter is a Belgian-style Strong Pale Ale brewed by Birrificio Le Baladin, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a tumbler from a bottle.
Appearance
The ale pours a cloudy ochre hue and is topped by a finger-thick cap of white froth that persists briefly. A thin ring of foam rounds the glass but the reduction doesn’t leave behind any lace or residue.
Aroma
The aromatics are faint with a scent of piney hops and alcohol.
Flavor
Toasted bread, nut, and yeast lead a palate that rises to a mild bite of piney hops and lemon tea. Citrus notes of orange and grapefruit with a hint of booze linger into the finish.
Mouthfeel
Its feel has a body that’s just under medium and has less-than-moderate carbonation. Its finish has a slight alcohol warming sensation.
Overall
Its presentation could use better retention and its feel could use more carbonation. Aroma is slight but acceptable. Its palate leans sweet with malt and fruity esters but does offer enough balance from the hops and alcohol. While not perfect, the Super Bitter is still an enjoyable beer.
Recommended Pairings
Baladin recommends the following food pairings with their Super Bitter: braised meat and mature cheeses.
