Straight Outta Newport Oregon is an American Double IPA brewed by Rogue Ales, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a bottle.
Appearance
The ale pours a crystal-clear marigold and is topped by an inch-thick cap of loose, rocky white foam that shows modest retention. Small patches of lace and a soapy collar ring the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is a pleasant scent of pine and tropical fruit.
Flavor
The palate begins mildly sweet with caramel and candied sugar atop lightly toasted bread. That sweetness escalates with a punch of juicy tropical flavor blend of tangerine and mango. Its finish then turns bitter with grapefruit and a herbal note of dank resin.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is relatively smooth with a medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Alcohol lends a warm and slightly dry finish.
Overall
Its appearance could show better retention and lace. And its feel is slightly syrupy but otherwise fine. This is nitpicking. More importantly, its aroma is nice and that palate is an absolute mouth pleaser. This beer may be Straight Outta Newport Oregon but its hoppy bite and juicy goodness can be appreciated anywhere.
