Stone Enjoy By 04.20.18 IPA is an American Double IPA brewed by Stone Brewing, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.

Appearance

The IPA pours a crystal-clear marigold hue and is topped by a tall stack of rocky off-white foam. The head shows superb retention and leaves behind a smattering of sticky lace on the glass. Bubbles continuously stream upward.

Aroma

The aroma is appropriately dank with a heady scent of resin. There’s also a hint of tropical fruit thrown in for good measure.

Flavor

The palate begins with a taste of toasted bread mixed with pine. The finish is quite hoppy—but not overwhelmingly bitter—with notes of citrusy grapefruit and orange backed by more pine and resin. There’s a flash of fruity peach beneath the bite.

Mouthfeel

Its feel is smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp and clean with a dry finish. Slightly warming as well.

Overall

This brew packs no fewer than 12 hop varietals at a combined 90 IBUs and yet those numbers are surprising. Credit Stone for crafting a DIPA that offers ample bite but gives it a nice malt backbone for balance. And its lofty ABV is managed quite well. Presents nicely, the aroma suits the concept, the palate is terrific, and its feel is spot on. Apropos that the Stone Enjoy By 04.20.18 IPA should receive high marks all around.

Recommended Pairings

Stone recommends the following food pairings with their Stone Enjoy By 04.20.18 IPA: cheeses of Parmigiano-Reggiano, extra aged cheddar, Rogue Creamery Caveman Blue, and Mimolette; appetizers of guacamole, kimchi, salt and pepper shrimp (or tofu), and sausage-stuffed jalapeños; mains of chicken-fried steak, Merguez sausage, gumbo, chile relleno, and Thai drunken noodles; sweets of carrot cake, peach cobbler, ginger spice cake, and pumpkin cheesecake.
