Scaled Up is an American Double IPA brewed by Trillium Brewing Company in the New England style. For the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a snifter from a can.
Appearance
Pours an opaque golden brown with a razor-thin head of white bubbles that vanish almost immediately. Any lace or residue is absent.
Aroma
Aroma is soft but dankly suggests floral and herbal hops.
Palate
At first sip, the palate is astringent but after a few minutes, the malt asserts itself for a wonderfully balanced brew. A quadruple dose of hops drives the palate beginning with a note of pine and shifting to citrus. Orange juice yields to a bitter finish of grapefruit and lemon atop an underlying sweetness of pineapple and mango.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel has a medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall
Scaled Up is an absolute juice bomb that’s oh so flavorful and continues to improve as the beer warms. This Double IPA might not be the best that Trillium has to offer, but it’s damn good, just the same. Definitely worth a try.
