Samuel Adams Oatmeal Stout is an English-style Oatmeal Stout brewed by the Boston Beer Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a nonic pint glass from a bottle.
Appearance
The stout pours a clear mahogany hue that shows burgundy at the edges of the glass. The ale is topped by a thick cap of khaki-colored foam that shows good retention. A few patches of lace stick to the glass. A soapy collar and a thin layer of bubbles top the liquid.
Aroma
The aroma is initially quite sweet with dark fruits and chocolate, but as the beer warms, it becomes toasty with roast malt.
Flavor
The palate begins with brown bread that shifts to a mild bite of floral hops and coffee roast that lingers through the finish. The tasting bottoms out with sweet notes of dark chocolate and caramel.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is creamy smooth that becomes lightly prickly on the backend. Medium-full body with a shade over moderate carbonation. Finishes dryly.
Overall
Its toasty aroma is quite pleasant. Its feel is luxurious. Tasting leans malty but there are enough hops and roast to keep the brew in check. Samuel Adams Oatmeal Stout is a nice sipper and an enjoyable brew for the season.
