Reef Donkey is an American Pale Ale brewed by Tampa Bay Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a nonic pint glass from a can.
Appearance
Pours a slightly hazy, golden-orange with a half-inch thick cap of white foam that dissolves quickly. A touch of residue clings to the glass.
Aroma
Aroma is pleasant with citrus and cracker malt.
Flavor
The palate is initially bitter with a squeeze of grapefruit before a malty caramel sweetness asserts itself.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel is somewhat thin with a less-than-medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall
The Reef Donkey has a solid palate that’s nicely balanced but its watery mouthfeel makes this Pale Ale decidedly mediocre.
I tried this beer in a bar in Ocala and was floored. It tastes like a delicious IPA and is very drinkable and it won’t weigh you down like some of the higher alcohol beers. Nice job Tampa Brewing. I’m going to ask my local beer stores in Pennsylvania to try to get a hold of this stuff. I’ll bet your IPA is tasty as well. Thanks.
