What You Need to Know

The Official Hazy IPA is an unfiltered IPA made from wheat malt and double dry-hopped with a blend of Mosaic, Citra, Azacca, Amarillo, and El Dorado varietals. The result is a complex palate of stone and tropical fruits with a dry finish and balanced bitterness. So how was it? Let’s get to the review.

Appearance

The Official Hazy IPA pours an opaque marigold hue and is topped by an inch-thick cap of dense off-white foam. This hazy brew’s head shows fine retention and as it slowly withdraws, it leaves behind some sticky residue.

Aroma

The aroma pops with a mix of fruity and floral hops that can still be detected long after the pour.

Flavor

The palate begins with a taste of bready malt that smoothly transitions to hoppy sweet burst of peach and tangerine. A cleansing tart squeeze of lemon citrus rounds out the tasting.

Mouthfeel

The feel is smooth throughout and its hoppiness imparts a lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue. The IPA has a medium body and matching carbonation.

Overall

The Official Hazy IPA certainly looks the part. The ale is rendered in a lovely golden hue and is topped by a lovely puff of heady foam. The aroma is fragrant, pleasant, and persistent; while the flavor and feel combine for what is a refreshing brew. As a New England style brew, it might not measure up to the freshest offerings from your local brewery, but otherwise, it’s a solid brew to have around. The bitterness isn’t too aggressive and would suit most palates. Certainly a solid brew in which to stock your fridge.

Recommended Pairings

Bell’s Brewery recommends the following food pairings with their Official Hazy IPA: Fennel, orange and arugula salad with bleu cheese; Miso soup with citrus pork belly; Pizza, garlic bread, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, pickled fruits, grilled vegetables; and Sweets of white chocolate or ginger mango cake with a cream cheese frosting.
