Oceanside White IPA is an American IPA brewed in the White IPA style by Tomoka Brewing Company. For the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.
Appearance
The IPA pours a somewhat clear marigold and is topped by a tall stack of rocky white foam that shows excellent retention. Small patches of lace cling to the sides of the glass.
Aroma
The aroma consists of grapefruit and tropcial fruit.
Flavor
Hop-forward palate boasts grapefruit and lemon. A note of pepper and a light taste of booze appear in the finish. Doughy bready with tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and mango tie the palate together.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel has a lighter body than you’d expect from a beer with 7.1% ABV. Ample carbonation complements the style, making it crisp and refreshing.
Overall
While there’s little evidence of a Belgian wit in this brew, if you appreciate a hoppy citrus IPA, the Oceanside White IPA is perfect. And though it is quite hoppy, there is a nice malt backbone for balance. Though there’s a slight taste of booze, this IPA is easily quaffed.
