No Crusts is an American Brown Ale brewed by Funky Buddha Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a nonic pint glass from a bottle.
The Brown Ale pours a cloudy dark brown with ample sediment in suspension. The ale glows copper when held to the light and is topped by a thick cap of dense cream-colored foam that shows excellent retention. The head’s reduction leaves behind a coat of residue on the glass.
The aroma is strong with a scent of peanuts that’s been sweetened with grape jam.
The hop-forward palate is initially floral and transitions through bready malt with a hint of chocolate. More floral and earthy hops follow and the finish is syrupy sweet with the taste of berries and toffee. The nutty flavor of peanuts rounds out the finish.
Its feel is smooth with a body that’s just over medium with moderate carbonation. Finishes somewhat dryly and lightly coating.
No Crusts looks lovely in the glass. Its aroma is strong, interesting, and pleasant. The feel is a little sticky but is otherwise fine. As for its taste, this is one of those brews that you’re unsure if you like it right away but then its taste grows on you. The balance between hops, bready malt, sweet berries, and peanuts is done well. This beer probably isn’t for everyone but if you enjoy a PB&J sandwich, give this Brown Ale a try.
Funky Buddha recommends the following food pairings with their No Crusts Brown Ale: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fried ice cream, sweet banana wontons, tostones, and pad thai.
