Night Swim is an American Porter brewed by Coppertail Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a mug from a bottle.
Appearance
Pours an opaque mahogany with a two-finger thick head of mocha foam. Unfortunately, no lacing is left on the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is faint with a scent of roast malt.
Flavor
The smoky palate follows the nose with a taste of roast malt that’s akin to burnt coffee. The roast flavor is backed by a mild sweetness of dark chocolate. There’s a piney hops presence throughout but it’s not overpowering.
Mouthfeel
The feel has a medium body with low carbonation that makes for smooth and easy drinking.
Overall
Night Swim is a well-made brew but not particularly special.
Recommended Pairings
Coppertail recommends the following food pairings with their Night Swim Porter: cheeses of Asiago, Colby, and Camembert; mains of smoked foods, sausage, barbecue, roasted meats, chili, and rich stews; desserts of cheesecakes, coconut bars, and chocolate cake.
Love it.
Is it really only 186 calories a glass?
That number is just an estimate. The brewery hasn’t provided the actual amount so the number provided is a ballpark figure.
