Muy Bonita is an American Brown Ale brewed by Funky Buddha Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a Teku glass from a bottle.
Appearance
Pours a burnt umber with a thick cap of khaki-colored foam that reduces slowly. Heavy residue coats the sides of the glass.
Aroma
Soothing aroma is sugary sweet with cinnamon and applesauce.
Flavor
The palate follows the nose with flavors of apple, cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and a hint of booze. Bitterness is subdued with mild lemon, used nicely in a complementary manner.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with low carbonation and a medium body.
Overall
Muy Bonita is packed with plenty of flavors even if it is a bit too sweet. Not your typical brown ale but there’s still a lot to like.
Recommended Pairings
Funky Buddha recommends the following food pairings with their Muy Bonita: cheeses of aged Gouda, young Comte, mild cheddar, and Mycella; cuisine of grilled red meat, herb-crusted pork tenderloin, sweet winter squash, earthy root vegetables, wild rice pilaf, sausage and rutabaga baked with gruyere; sweets of vanilla bread pudding with apple crumble topping.
