MON… IPA (formerly named Monumentous) is an American IPA brewed by Coachella Valley Brewing Company. For the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a chalice from a bottle.

Appearance

Pours an opaque rust orange topped by a thick pillow of cream-colored foam. The head reduces slowly and leaves patches of foam to coat the glass. Sediment is visible during the pour and collects at the bottom of the glass.

Aroma

An intriguing aroma of pine needles and sugary pineapple.

Flavor

A hop-forward palate offers an initial burst of piney and citrus flavors. Fruity malt balances the brew on the back end and finishes mildly bitter with grapefruit.

Mouthfeel

Dry mouthfeel has a medium body with moderate carbonation. Finishes somewhat astringently.

Overall

MON… IPA is a brew that defies expectations. Could it use more bite? Perhaps. And some will think it too sweet, but I found it to be enjoyable.

Name Change

MON… IPA was formerly named Monumentous but Coachella Valley Brewing lost a trademark battle and was forced to rename its flagship and award-winning brew.
