Loral & Dr. Rudi’s Inevitable Adventure, an American Double IPA by Stone Brewing

Loral & Dr. Rudi’s Inevitable Adventure is an American Double IPA brewed by Stone Brewing, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a bottle.

Appearance

The ale pours a crystal-clear marigold and is topped by a thick cap of puffy white foam that shows fine retention. Patches of lace clutch the sides and a layer foam persists above the ale.

Aroma

The aroma is faint but wafts a hint of peach and stewed vegetables.

Flavor

Toasted bread, light pine, and stone fruit lead the palate to a light grapefruit citrus, resin, and an herbal bite whose finish has a light vegetal taste. Just beneath that lingering bitterness, there’s a sweet note of peach.

Mouthfeel

Its feel is relatively smooth with a medium body and matching carbonation. Finishes dryly, with a slight stickiness, and a light warming sensation.

Overall

What’s most enjoyable about Loral & Dr. Rudi’s Inevitable Adventure is that it is different. This isn’t the typical citrus or pine IPA you’ve tried a hundred times previously. As its name suggests, this brew takes you places. Now it might not be places you want to go… but go you shall.

Looks good in the glass and has a nice mouthfeel. Real easy to drink. The aroma is interesting but not necessarily inviting. And its mish-mash of citrus, pine, floral, herbal, and resin hops flavors with stone fruit and toast is provocative. In such a way that you’re unsure if you like it, but you’ll keep drinking to find out. And then it just kind of grows on you. This might not be a brew you’ll drink over and over, but if you are in the mood for something different—if you are looking for a little adventure—give this IPA a try.

Recommended Pairings

Stone Brewing recommends the following food pairings with their Loral & Dr. Rudi Inevitable Adventure: starters of black tiger shrimp ceviche, sliced Papaya with lime and salt, honey Sriracha quail knots, and chicken Karaage steamed buns; soups and salads of Yum Woon Sen (Thai noodle salad), baby gem Caesar salad, Caprese salad, gazpacho, tomato basil soup; mains of gyro with Tzatziki sauce, citrus glazed pork chop, spicy lamb sausage rigatoni, Capellini Pomodoro, and sea scallops; desserts of mango Mochi, Pot de Crème with Fresh Berries, cherry ice cream, and lemon gelato with ginger cookies.
