Krombacher Weizen is a Hefeweizen brewed by Krombacher Brauerei, and for the purposes of this review, the ale was served in a wheat beer glass from a bottle.
Appearance
Pours a cloudy marigold with an inch-thick head of white foam that offers excellent retention. A little lace is left behind on the glass.
Aroma
Pleasant aroma yields typical banana and clove.
Flavor
The palate is subdued with mild flavors of banana and clove atop a wheat base. Finishes bitterly with peppery hops.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel is smooth and effervescent but its light body seems a tad thin.
Overall
The Krombacher Weizen is an easy-drinking beer but its palate is underwhelming. While it’s not bad, just know there are better hefeweizens available from Germany and here in the United States.
I know I am in the minority when I say this, I have had quite a few German Hefeweizens and, in my opinion, it is one of the smoothest, most flavorable ones, surpassing what many consider the best; Weihenstephaner. Paulaner, Franzikaner, Hacker Pschoor and others are very good but I prefer Krombacher.
