What You Need to Know

As its name indicates, the Ivory Stout (White Stout) looks very different from your typical Stout. It might not be white but it is a pale golden color. It’s a gimmick that might lure you into a purchase. But is it worth it? Let’s get to the review.

Appearance

The Stout pours a crystal-clear golden hue and is topped by a very thick cap of dense ivory-white foam that shows excellent retention. Patches of sticky lace and a soapy collar round the glass following the reduction.

Aroma

The aroma of the Ivory Stout is sweet with a scent of chocolate and vanilla. There’s also just a hint of coffee bean.

Flavor

The palate begins with a taste of doughy bread that sweetens with vanilla with hints of chocolate, coffee, and floral hops.

Mouthfeel

Its feel is smooth, slightly sticky with a medium body and less-than-moderate carbonation.

Overall

Its appearance is obviously inconsistent with the style but considering the concept, it works. Regardless, the brew looks good in the glass. Not working as well, both the aroma and palate are super sweet; the flavors are less than harmonious and there’s just too little bitterness. Worse, its feel is too thin for the style. The Ivory Stout is a gimmicky beer whose pale appearance isn’t nearly compelling enough to demand a purchase.

  1. I was really impressed. Tried it at the Disney World Dolphin Resort. I tried it because I live in Indianapolis and work in Plainfield. Great tasting. Will definitely buy when I get home.
