Hopstar, a Session IPA by Fulton Beer

Hopstar is a Session IPA brewed in the New England style by Fulton Beer, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.

Appearance

The ale pours a hazy gold and is topped by a thick stack of rocky, white foam that shows fine retention. Chunks of soapy foam cling to the glass while the head slowly reduces. A lovely lattice of lace sticks to the glass during consumption.

Aroma

The aroma is fragrant with a pleasant scent of pine and a touch of tropical fruit.

Flavor

A taste of cracker malt becomes sharply bitter with hoppy notes of soft pine, turns herbal with resin, and finishes with lemon citrus. There’s a hint of tropical fruit flavor in the base.

Mouthfeel

The feel is crisp with a medium body and a shade-over-medium carbonation. Finishes dryly.

Overall

Though Hopstar does have a big hop profile its bitterness isn’t as overpowering as some representations of the style. Sure, a little more malt balance would be nice but there’s enough to appeal to most palates. This is a great brew for hopheads and anyone else who’s looking for tremendous hop flavor in a tiny, sessionable package.
