Golden State Ale is a Belgian-style Pale Ale brewed by Uncommon Brewers, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a cup from a can.

Appearance

This pale pours a hazy honey color and is topped by a thin white head of froth that bubbles down rapidly. A wee bit of lacing clings to the cup.

Aroma

Sweet aroma consists of candied fruit and spiced with coriander.

Flavor

The palate begins with a taste of mildly floral hops and poppy seeds before turning syrupy with bready malt and dark fruit. Finish is acidic and bitter.

Mouthfeel has a medium body; smoother than expected.

Overall

Overall, the flavors of the Golden State Ale are underwhelming, and thus, is a mediocre representation of a Belgian brew.
