Gnomegang Blonde Ale is a Belgian-style Strong Pale Ale is collaboratively brewed by Brewery Ommegang and Belgian brewer Brasserie d’Achouffe. For the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a tulip glass from a bottle.
Appearance
Pours a hazy, rust orange with a thick cap of white foam.
Aroma
Yeast dominates a fragrant nose backed by coriander and bready malt.
Flavor
Flavor runs candy-sweet with banana, papaya, and caramel. Yeast serves as an ever-present backdrop, and the palate finishes somewhat dryly with cracked pepper.
Mouthfeel
Mouthfeel is crisp and effervescent—perhaps lighter than expected for a brew clocking in at 9.5% ABV.
Overall
Overall, yeast is the star of this brew, utilizing two different strains. And it’s love at first sip. The Gnomegang Blonde Ale is another refreshing treat from one of the best Belgian-style brewers in America.
About this Beer
Brewery Ommegang began brewing Gnomegang in 2010 in a collaboration with Belgian brewer Brasserie d’Achouffe. Using Chouffe’s fruity, spicy yeast in the blonde ale added flavors that immediately won over staff and patrons.
