Galactica is an American Double IPA brewed by Clown Shoes Beer, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.
Appearance
The ale pours a mostly clear copper and is topped by a towering stack of rocky, cream-colored foam. The head shows excellent retention, leaving behind chunks of lace that collapse to a soapy collar.
Aroma
The aroma is piney and floral with hints of tropical fruit and booze.
Flavor
The palate begins with a taste of biscuit and transitions to a bite of light but indeterminate citrus. A bigger bite of piney hops is mellowed by sweet pineapple and caramel. Mild herbal hops linger on the tongue. As the beer warms a strong taste of alcohol asserts itself.
Mouthfeel
A relatively smooth feel has a medium body and moderate carbonation. The finish is dry with a warming alcohol sensation.
Overall
Galactica has a nice balance of hops, fruit, and caramel, but gets a little boozy as the beer warms. Otherwise, this brew makes for a nice Double IPA.
