Floridian Hefeweizen is a German-style Hefeweizen brewed by Funky Buddha Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a wheat beer glass from a bottle.
Appearance
The Hefeweizen pours a crystal-clear golden yellow and is topped by a generous stack of dense, puffy white foam that shows excellent retention. Patches of residue cling to the sides and a constant stream of bubbles rise in the glass.
Aroma
The aroma is a heady mix of yeasty funk, grass, and clove.
Flavor
The palate begins with a taste of doughy bread that gives way to ripe banana and a tart pop of citrus.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is soft and smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall
For an unfiltered brew, this beer shows remarkable clarity. Otherwise, its appearance is nice. The aroma is off and lacks the fruit typical of the style. But its palate is very approachable and it’s quite easy to drink. The Floridian Hefeweizen is a fair offering that’ll appeal to the masses but not one that excites.
Recommended Pairings
Funky Buddha recommends the following food pairings with their Floridian Hefeweizen: mild or sharp goat cheeses, arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette, grilled shrimp, beer-battered onion rings with spicy aioli, whole wheat crust pizza, and honey-drizzled baklava.
