DDH Juice, an American Double IPA by Civil Society Brewing Co.

DDH Juice is an American Double IPA brewed in the New England style by Civil Society Brewing Co. For the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.

Appearance

The hazy DIPA pours an opaque yellow ochre and is topped by a thick cap of loose, soapy off-white foam that shows modest retention. The reduction leaves behind a few droplets of residue and a thin band of bubbly froth rounding the glass.

Aroma

The aroma wafts the nose with a scent of pine. As the beer warms, a heady scent of resin asserts itself.

Flavor

The hop-forward palate presents pine and then turns citrusy with a sharp bite of lemon and grapefruit. Its finish is quite dank with resin. A mellow note of tropical fruit underneath as the beer warms. Doughy bread ties the palate together.

Mouthfeel

Its feel is smooth with a medium body and matching carbonation. Finishes dryly with moderate astringency and a mild warming sensation.

Overall

Its name is DDH Juice but it’s also quite Dank. Yes, there is a pronounced citrus presence but the pine and resin sandwiching the bitter fruit have their place, too. The palate leans quite hoppy with the bitterness distributed equally between citrus and green.

The DIPA’s appearance is appropriate for a New Englander and its aroma is quite pleasant. Its feel has a light warmth and supports the palate nicely. Refreshing and easily quaffed. Another solid brew from Civil Society.
