Big Eye is an American IPA brewed by Ballast Point Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a stange from a can.
Appearance
The IPA pours a clear copper and is topped by an inch-thick cap of cream-colored foam. Its slow reduction leaves behind patches of sticky lacing.
Aroma
Aroma is faint and floral—not nearly indicative of the bold hop flavor to come.
Flavor
The palate opens with a biting palate of Columbus and Centennial hops. Its flavors are piney, herbal and earthy but balanced nicely with a caramel malt backbone.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is crisp and dry with a medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall
Big Eye is a well-balanced IPA that still offers a hefty IBU count that’s sure to keep the hopheads happy.
