Big Eye is an American IPA brewed by Ballast Point Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a stange from a can.
The IPA pours a clear copper and is topped by an inch-thick cap of cream-colored foam. Its slow reduction leaves behind patches of sticky lacing.
Aroma is faint and floral—not nearly indicative of the bold hop flavor to come.
The palate opens with a biting palate of Columbus and Centennial hops. Its flavors are piney, herbal and earthy but balanced nicely with a caramel malt backbone.
Its feel is crisp and dry with a medium body and moderate carbonation.
Big Eye is a well-balanced IPA that still offers a hefty IBU count that’s sure to keep the hopheads happy.
Ballast Point recommends the following food pairings with their Big Eye IPA: Hawaiian–style tuna poke, Panang curry, and cured meats.
