Appearance
The Scotch Ale pours a crystal-clear ruby red and is topped by nearly an inch-thick cap of frothy white foam that shows good retention. The head’s reduction leaves behind a soapy collar and a thin film atop the liquid.
Aroma
The aroma is slight but pleasant and wafts a scent of freshly baked bread with a hint of herbal hops.
Flavor
A taste of soft biscuit and toffee lead the palate and are quickly followed by a mild bite of English hops. The hops impart flavors that are earthy, herbal, and lemony. A malty backbone of baked bread and nut tie the palate together.
Mouthfeel
Its feel is rich and grainy with a body that’s a shade over medium with moderate carbonation.

The appearance, aroma, feel, and palate all meet the expectations for a Scottish Export. And while the brew’s taste isn’t particularly challenging or complex, the straightforward palate of the Belhaven Scottish Ale is easily quaffed. Or it can be enjoyed as a slow sipper.
