A limited edition IPA from San Diego County-based Stone Brewing gained some popularity over the past week for having a name that is suspiciously similar to the word of the week: impeach.

As President Donald Trump became the third president in American history to be impeached, beer lovers took to social media to share images of themselves enjoying the brown bottles of “I’m Peach” Double IPA by Stone Brewing.

At a glance, one could easily mistake the beer’s name as it’s printed in large orange letters across the packaging front, appearing as one word. Even the apostrophe between the “I“ and “M“ letters is small enough that it could be overlooked.

Stone’s slogan reads “Unite hops, peaches and each other.”

But if you were to ask Stone Brewing spokesperson Lizzie Younkin, she’d tell you that you’re reading too much into it.

“It’s no secret that Stone Brewing is comfortable with being bold,” she said in an interview with NBC 7. “This double IPA is packed with peaches and meant to leave a lingering impression — on your palate.”

Regardless of the intent, the optical illusion wasn’t lost on the beer community who posted posted pictures of themselves enjoying the fruity DIPA over the past week since Trump’s impeachment.

Some of the posts accompanying the photos on the social beer review app Untappd read:
“This is what Democracy tastes like.”
“Historic day calls for a historic brew.”
“Tastes like America right now.”
“Political statement beer!”

Perhaps they were inspired by the description on the bottle that hints at recent political events.

“We want to shout I’M PEACH from the rooftops. Yet, we’re afraid of the potential alienation from select peach-hating members of our friends and family,” the description reads.

There’s also a reference to looking like a “freedom hating sissy” while another refers to having an “I’m Peach party.”

Of course none of this matters as Younkin claimed that the brewmasters at Stone only concerned themselves with producing a great-tasting, peach-flavored DIPA.

“Don’t overthink it, just enjoy the beer!”

The limited edition brew was re-released during Thanksgiving week back on November 20, 2019. It is presently available nationwide while supplies last. Find it at a location near you via Stone’s website beer finder.
