At the end of January Longtab Brewing Company finally held its grand opening after a pair of soft openings.
The brewery, located in a North West Side business park of San Antonio, is pouring coffee, beer, and is serving menu of snacks and sandwiches. Longtab’s name pays tribute to recipients of the U.S. Army Special Forces Tab, also known as a “Long Tab,” worn by Green Berets — including the owner Dave Holland and the head brewer Mike Brown.
From the outside, the brewery appears like so many, an industrial park lined with large garage doors. The tasting room, however, is far more refined; a well-polished space that’s been in development for nearly two years.
The brewery opens early at 8 AM. Longtab pours its own coffee including frothy cappuccinos. But if you’re in the mood for some day drinking, the beer is being poured as well. Speaking of which, there are presently four beers (more are on their way) to choose from — available in a flight or on their own.
There’s the Pineland Oppression Pale Ale that’s light and crisp — an ideal remedy for hot summery days. There’s a Belgian honey blond named Long Haired Dictionary that’s smooth with an agreeable amount of yeasty funk.
And there are a pair of IPAs as well. The Quiet Professional is hoppy with tropical fruit while the Snake Eater American Black Rye IPA is toasty with caramelized grain and an intense hoppy aroma.
The menu features a few snacks and sandwiches including chips and salsa, Bavarian-style soft pretzels, a roast beef reuben panino and the bacon jam ham and cheese panino.
Longtab is open from 8 AM to 2 PM Monday through Wednesday, 8 AM to 9 PM Thursday, 8 AM to 11 PM Friday and Saturday, noon to 8 PM Sunday.
The brewery is located 4700 Timco West, Suite 105.
