Less important, but there was a football game on Sunday, and the DC Defenders of the XFL broke out of their slump to beat the St. Louis BattleHawks 15-6 and improve their record to 3-2. While their victory probably can’t be attributed directly to their fans creating a monster “Beer Snake” built from the thousands of used beer cups strewn about the stadium, you also can’t say it wasn’t a major factor, either.

The DC Defender fans birthed this new tradition and now the legend of the Beer Snake adds another chapter to its legacy: the commissioner of the XFL, Oliver Luck, gave it due recognition and even participated in the festivities. Yeah, it’s highly unlikely NFL commissioner Roger Goodell would ever do such a thing.

Commissioner Luck showed that he isn’t just another corporate shill. He truly is a man of the people and that’s why he made his way to the beer snake and offer his assistance.

Fans were thoroughly excited — drinking in the moment — while the Defenders surged to victory over the Battlehawks.

The beer snake, whose length stretched to over 14 rows long, really was the stuff of myth. And its impressive size caught the eyes of everyone, not just the commissioner.

Besides being a fun tradition, the very name “Beer Snakes” might be a better choice than Defenders.

With the coronavirus moving across the U.S. at the moment, it seems unlikely that the CDC would put the beer snake on their list of activities to pursue. However, it happened and the result was spectacular. Lastly, there was this timely gem from the Twitterverse:
