Rogue Ales & Spirits
Rogue Ales is a craft brewery that was founded in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon. The company brews their own beer, distills their own spirits, farms their own ingredients and coopers their own barrels. Rogue has locations in Oregon and Washington.
Rogue’s beer revolution began back in 1988 in the basement of the first Rogue Public House on Lithia Creek in Ashland, Oregon where American Amber Ale and Oregon Golden quickly became popular brews. Before long, our founder Jack Joyce was looking for a second location.
In 1989, Jack found himself in Newport, Oregon, stuck in an unusual snowstorm when he met Mohava Niemi, aka “Mo” (founder of Mo’s Restaurants) who extended her signature hospitality and fed him some of her famous clam chowder. Over a bowl, she told him she’d always dreamed of living above a bar and described the perfect spot for the next Rogue Brewpub: Mo had a large building with three apartments upstairs, a sweater shop, an art gallery, 1,100 sq. ft. of empty storefront and an 800 sq. ft. garage.
Mo offered to rent Jack the vacant storefront and the garage under two conditions:
1. Rogue promises to “feed the fisherman,” Mo’s way of saying give back to the community. The vast majority of Newport’s residents are fisherman who work on the waterfront, a huge part of Newport’s economy.
2. A photo of Mo in a bathtub forever hangs over the bar. It’s still there today and a copy of the photo hangs in every Rogue Meeting Hall.
The Rogue Bayfront Public House soon opened in that storefront and John Maier, who joined Rogue in May of 1989, brewed the first batch of Rogue beer there in the back room. Before long, this would become the world headquarters of Rogue Ales & Spirits when the Ashland location was forced to close due to flooding. The brewpub in the back of the Bayfront Public House would eventually be moved to a larger facility on South Beach, which is now also home to Brewer’s on the Bay, Rogue House of Spirits, Rogue Spirits Distillery and Rogue Rolling Thunder Barrel Works. A small inn, the Bed ‘n’ Beer, is also operated in the three apartments located above the Bayfront Public House.
Rogue Bayfront Public House
Rogue Ales Public House, originally named the Bayfront Brewery, was the first place Brewmaster John Maier brewed Rogue. Eventually, the brewery moved across the bay but the 35 taps at the pub still pour Rogue brews and a full menu is available.
Rogue Brewer’s on the Bay
Located inside Rogue World Headquarters, our two-story brewpub looks out to the Yaquina Bay and picturesque Marina in Newport, Oregon. Before grabbing food off our menu or one of our 40 Rogue ales & lagers on tap, sign up for a group tour where you just might see Brewmaster Joel Shields and the Newport brew crew brewing up a specialty in-house beer or one of our well known legendary ales. Tours run every day (hours listed below) and include our Rogue Spirits Distillery, Rogue Rolling Thunder Cooperage and Rogue Spirits Tasting Room.
Rogue Spirits Tasting Room
Located directly across from the Rogue Distillery, the House of Spirits offers Rogue Spirits paired with an unbeatable view of the Yaquina Bay Marina and Bridge. Bartenders mix Rogue Spirits cocktails, pour Rogue ales and lagers and serve up snacks from our limited menu.
Rogue Pearl Public House
Welcome to the official Timbers watching pub in the Pearl District. Fans can watch their favorite team on five TVs, order any of our 40 world class ales, lagers, ciders and sodas on tap, sip on a Rogue Spirits cocktails and order off of our new food menu. When you walk in you may notice distilling equipment, as this was the original location of our distillery until it moved to Newport, Oregon in 2008.
Rogue Eastside Pub & Pilot Brewery
Our Eastside Pub and Pilot Brewery pours 36 legendary and limited-release Rogue brews in addition to 19 taps — the original 19 that our predecessor the Green Dragon Bistro & Pub opened with — reserved for our fellow independent breweries.
Danny Connors, one of Rogue’s Innovation Brewers, crafts experimental beers in the Pilot Brewery near the back of the pub while guests can order food and Rogue Spirits cocktails at the bar, or lounge on our large outdoor dog-friendly patio. We’ve also got a private event space with a view of the brewery.
Rogue Hall
We opened Rogue Hall in 2011 on the PSU campus, just a half block off Portland’s South Park Blocks. Students and locals alike are welcome to join us for 20 taps of legendary Rogue brews and beers you’ll only find at the pub, Rogue Spirits cocktails, a full menu, a dog-friendly patio and free WiFi.
Rogue Pier 39 Public House
Opened in July 2007 in the former Bumble Bee Tuna Cannery on Pier 39 over the Columbia River, our Astoria Public House has a pretty impressive view of the river as well as banquet and event space, outside seating and 30 taps, including a couple limited pub-only brews. Dogs are welcome on our outdoor patio. To reserve our event space, call the pub directly.
Rogue Farms Tasting Room
Our Rogue Farms Tasting Room, pours 12 draft beers, each representing the beer ingredients grown right there at Rogue Farms. Guests can purchase beers by the bottle or dishes off our limited menu.
Rogue Issaquah Brewhouse
Located in historic downtown Issaquah, Washington, right next to the Friends of Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, our Issaquah Brewhouse was once a working brewery. Today, we feature the familiar Rogue ales and lagers alongside experimental brews that you can only find at Rogue Public Houses. We also have a full menu and Rogue Spirits cocktails are also served up. We’re family friendly and we welcome dogs where outdoor seating is available.
