Alter Brewing Company

Alter Brewing Company opened in December 2015 in Downers Grove, Illinois, just west of Chicago. They are passionate beer lovers dedicated to producing beer of the highest quality while pushing the boundaries of traditional styles. They seek to leverage their passion and craft into serving and improving the local community and beyond.

The Alter space features a state of the art brew house and a beautiful modern-industrial taproom that is open 7 days a week.

Downers Grove Taproom

We only have a few rules: have fun. Be respectful. Enjoy the people around you. We’re brewing beers that bring people together. We can’t wait to see you at our place.

Draft Sizes: Our beers are available in 5oz, 12oz, and 16oz pours. We also have 32 oz. crowlers and 64 oz. growlers available for to-go only. Higher % ABV beers are limited to 12 oz. pours. Barrel Aged beers are served in 10 oz. pours and are not available in growlers (sorry, Charlie).

Food: We have some assorted snacks for you to munch on including gourmet breadsticks, beef sticks and various pretzels and peanuts. However, feel free to bring your own little feast, carry out or even have some food delivered. We have some menus behind the bar for local restaurants, so come up and ask for one if you’re hungry!

Parking Info: Feel free to park both in front of and behind the building. During normal daytime business hours (until 5 PM) please do not park in front of garage doors. Finally, please do not park along the side of the building, as passing cars and food trucks need that space. Thank you!

St. Charles Brewery & Kitchen

We’re thrilled to be joining the St. Charles and Fox River Valley communities with Alter Brewing + Kitchen. Alter’s first full-service brew pub! Our facility will include seating for 160 on the inside and 100+ in our outdoor, riverside patio.

Highlights: There will be plenty of theater within our four walls as we’ve positioned the brew house front and center as the heartbeat of our room. A private dining room adjacent to the brew house is certain to bring together small to medium sized private events in a vibrant sit down or cocktail environment.

Outdoor Patio: Along the Fox River, and including a full-service container bar, our patio will come alive 12 months out of the year as it will include a heated seasonal enclosure. We can’t wait to activate the patio with live music and seasonal decor.

Full Service: While our beer is certainly the front man of this band, the supporting musicians are excellent players! A full-service kitchen, wine and spirit program allows not just beer lovers but all to enjoy our carefully curated offerings. Whether you come for the beer, food, wine or spirits we know you’ll stay and come back because of the great times you’ll have.
